Europe: Celebrating the 2nd Global Lobular Breast Cancer Awareness Day
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – but October 15th now holds special meaning for the lobular community.
Introduced by the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance (LBCA) in 2024, Global Lobular Breast Cancer Awareness Day was created to shine a spotlight on the 15% of breast cancer diagnoses each year that are lobular.
Lobular breast cancer (ILC) is the second most common type of breast cancer, affecting thousands of people worldwide each year – yet it receives less than 1% of breast cancer research funding and still lacks targeted treatments. It’s a distinct form of breast cancer that may not form a lump, can be missed on mammograms, and is often diagnosed at a later stage.
This October, we’re marking the first anniversary of this important awareness day — and what a year it has been!
Since its launch, momentum has been growing across the globe, with more countries joining the effort to make lobular breast cancer seen, understood, and researched.
Across Europe, advocates and organisations are coming together to mark the day with inspiring events:
